NOTICE OF THE BRITISH-RUSSIAN LAW ASSOCIATION 2017 AGM & DINNER

on 8 September 2017

with guest speaker Dr Elizabeth Teague OBE

1. AGM

BRLA members are cordially invited to attend its 2017 Annual General Meeting on Friday, 8 September 2017 at 6.30pm at The Athenaeum Club, 107 Pall Mall, London SW1Y 5ER at which the following business will be transacted:

(i) Election of the Hon. Chair; the Hon. Vice-Chair; the Hon. Secretary; the Treasurer; the Social Secretary for 2017

(ii) Election of the BRLA Committee for 2017

(iii) Approval of accounts for the period 31 May 2016 – 7 September 2017

(iv) Review of activities in 2016 report on activities for 2017.

2. DRINKS RECEPTION & DINNER

The 2017 AGM will be followed by a drinks reception dinner from 7.00pm at which the after-dinner speaker will be Dr Elizabeth Teague OBE (whose extensive experience of Russian politics and current affairs are summarised in the brief biography below).  

RSVP to the Hon. Secretary, Rupert D’Cruz by 4 September 2017 at rdc@littletonchambers.co.uk with:

  1. any nominations for the executive or committee positions referred to above 
  2. and to register attendance at:

(i)                 the AGM; and/or

(ii)              the Drinks Reception; and/or

(iii)            Dinner (please indicate if you require the vegetarian option).

Attendance at the AGM and Drinks Reception is free of charge. There is charge of £50 per head for the Dinner.  Payment should be sent to the Hon. Dr Elizabeth Teague OBE

 

Dr Elizabeth Teague OBE is an independent analyst of Russian politics. A graduate of the Universities of Surrey and Birmingham, she spent a year in the USSR as a British Council student in the mid-1970s. She began her career as an analyst of Soviet affairs with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Munich in 1980. In the 1990s, she worked as an adviser to the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities in The Hague, and as an analyst with the Jamestown Foundation. She also spent a year at the US Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C. From 1997 until 2012, she was a Research Analyst covering Russian domestic and foreign policy with the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office. This included periods working in the British Embassies in Moscow and Minsk. Since 2013, she has convened a discussion group for the postgraduate students of Russian and East European Studies at the University of Oxford, where she is a Senior Member of St Antony’s College. She serves on the advisory board of the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre and on Rights in Russia’s advisory council.
